Preparing for the Earth Oven build / Foraging walk

We had 2 work sessions collecting materials for the earth oven build. The first one we had a small number of very hard working kids & mums plus Laurence, Duwayne & I helping & we collected a huge pile of rocks. Couldn’t believe how strong & hardworking these little kids were.

The 2nd session, record volunteer numbers of 24 (including kids) turned out to help. Yay!! All the rocks were moved from the bottom of the orchard to the top, sand was dug up and the area was cleared in preparation for the build. Discovered a stone wall behind all the brambles which will make a lovely backing for it. Thank you to everyone for all your hard work.

We were also treated to an amazing foraging & species identification walk by Noah Hall. We found so many edible wild plants in the orchard & then continued up to the top of Carnstabba Hill (clearing the path as we went as it’s become very overgrown). Thank you so much Noah, it was so interesting, we all learned so much. We are going to really miss you, hope you move back here again soon.

This Saturday (2nd Sept) we will start the build of the earth oven 11am.  Everyone welcome.
