For a few years we carried tools to the community orchard from home for our work parties and so are now so happy to have a shed where we can store all the tools and make a cup of tea. This shed as well as many of our new tools were bought with the £2000 we received from the Tesco ‘Bags of Help’ Grant. Thank you to everyone who voted for us and to Tesco and Groundworks who launched this funding initiative.
Duwayne built most of the shed together with help from Carl and the DofE volunteers. It was all cladded in recycled pallet wood and looks amazing. He’s built it strong so that it can support a green roof in the future. It’s created a real hub area, where we congregate for our work parties to chat, have a cup of tea (or cider when we celebrating) and make pizza. We have regular events at the orchard – our Wassail, Apple day, Solstice and Easter Egg hunt and it has made it so much easier to organise and at the end of the event, when it’s often dark, we can just throw everything in the shed to be sorted out the next day. We’ve also had an old canvas donated by a volunteer, Laurence, which we attach to the shed and it makes wonderful rain cover.
