Thank you to everyone who came along to our Apple Day on Sunday 28th September, what a wonderful celebration it was, with hundreds of local people joining in the fun and blessed with sunshine.
Together we picked and pressed masses of apples, drank fresh juice, tasted dozens of varieties at the harvest table, and tucked into cakes, pies, and plenty of orchard produce.
There was much to enjoy, from apple pie competitions, games, treasure hunts, circus skills and nature crafts, to free family craft activities run by Tate St Ives, The Leach Pottery, volunteers and St Ives Library also shared some lovely apple stories.
The Sacrificials got everyone dancing to their Californian-style tunes, Bagas Fellyon taught some fabulous Nos Lowen dances to their wonderful folk tunes, Hedluv + Passman, hilarious & entertaining Cornish rappers from Redruth / Lizard had the orchard full of laughter at their crazy antics.
Global Jamming involved everyone in a wonderful drumming workshop, Rumbellion entertained us with some great pirate shanty songs, and local musician Zoe McGowan wowed us with her stunning original songs and beautiful voice.
The Core-chestra Collective performed a lovely selection of folk songs combined with orchard-inspired original lyrics & Paul Brown played soothing piano in the Core cafe.
There was no shortage of food, from hot apple chilli bean stew to over 100 wood-fired pizzas made by tireless volunteers in the cob oven. The bar served up our very own Orchard cider, made with apples pressed this summer, as well as local IPA brewed nearby by the Mine Brewing Company.

A massive thank you to our amazing volunteers who worked flat out from morning till night, stringing bunting and festoon lights, setting up stage equipment, serving food & drinks, judging pies and making sure everything ran beautifully. This event was 100% volunteer-powered, with 40 volunteers giving 250 hours of time to put on this event which is quite amazing. And that’s not even counting all the hours of planning that went in beforehand!
