There is a wonderful telephone box on the terrace at the top of Tregenna hill that was looked after for many years by Mark Campbell who adopted this disused yet historic feature of the town’s streetscape. Many people enjoyed chatting to Mark over the years at his unique little telephone box shop while looking at his interesting clocks and postcards for sale.
Alter Mark’s sad passing, with permission by his family, it has now been looked after by neighbour Robyn Calder who organises that it is decorated by a different community group each month.
The phone box now has its own Facebook group: St Ives Telephone Box and its own Instagram Page Stivescornwalltelephonebox8.
We very much enjoyed taking over the postbox for the Harvest month of October.
Orchestrated by Phil Heasman, he cut out the wooden apples and orchard volunteers (Trace Chandler, Stephanie Asquith & Marion Heasman) decorated and painted designs to reflect the Orchard, Core & Nature Reserve. Matties scarecrow from the Orchard’s scarecrow festival moved inside and Marion’s scarecrow managed to survive on the top of the telephone box through some hectic strong winds and storms.

The Core-chestra group came along to busk outside one afternoon and while decorating it have enjoyed chatting to passers-bys about the orchard. They look forward to decorating it again in August next year.
Since it started in April 2025 it’s had The Rainbows decorating it for Easter, St Ives Arts Club for May, Crafty Corner, The Edward Hain Centre, The Kevranna Club (St Ives Foodshare) and The September Festival to name but a few.
