What a brilliant Apple Day! Thank you to the hundreds of people who came along to the Orchard to celebrate the apple harvest, enjoy the sunshine and make the most of everything going on.
There was plenty of freshly pressed apple juice to drink, cider flowing at the bar, apple cocktails, lots of delicious pizza from the earth oven and huge pots of veg stew.
And there was so much more happening throughout the afternoon… giant bubbles, apple pressing, treasure hunts, crafts, den building, apple games, fancy dress apple races, the tombola, nature activities, fruit tasting and, of course, our very competitive apple pie and dessert competition!
We were also joined by the Tate, St Ives Library, Steeple Woodland, Cornwall Wildlife Trust & Resilient Orchard’s helping with pressing the apples. Also had an amazing line-up of live music throughout the afternoon, from Dreckly Unchained and The Tinner’s Ceilidh Band to Jimbino Vegan & the Jazz Cannibals, The Devil’s Company and local musicians Leon Andrews & Brody Barden. Plus Corechestra playing in the Core.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along, all the performers, community groups, food makers, stallholders and, especially, the wonderful volunteers who made it all happen.
Big thanks to the Tanner Phoenix Trust (Cornwall Community Foundation) for their donation of £1000 towards our apple day.
More about the bands:
- Jimbino Vegan & the Jazz Cannibals, an entertaining London-based band performing original songs inspired by New Orleans jazz, folk, reggae, rap and punk, combining storytelling, humour and plenty of energy.
- Leon Andrews & Brody Barden – local musicians on vocals and guitar.
- The Tinner’s Ceilidh Band A local band playing traditional Irish & Scottish tunes and leading the audience in ceilidh dancing.
- The Devil’s Company – A three-piece undead jazz rock band. Fusing swing jazz and alt rock in an energetic set of classic covers and original sounds. Lively fun with a deadly swing!
- Dreckly Unchained – a St Ives community band playing original songs and instrumentals, blending local themes with a mix of styles like Celtic, Latin, and global folk. Musicians: Gavin Nicol, Treve Nicol, Sylvie Nicol and Kari Prince.
- Corechestra Collective – orchard folk who get together every week to practice in the Core.
